This thesis is aimed to explore the translation of different thematic structures and the solution to prominent problems related to Theme and Rheme in E-C simultaneous interpretation from the perspective of thematic theory.Participants of the experiment come from Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation,Beijing Foreign Studies University,and 27 students participated in the experiment.Theme is the first constituent of a clause and is the starting point of the speaker's words.Rheme is all the constituents after Theme,and is the specific information to be conveyed by the speaker.Identifying Theme and Rheme enables the interpreter to better understand the structure of the sentence/clause,and helps them deal with the original text and produce better translation.Four thematic structures are covered in this thesis-Simple Theme,Multiple Themes,Clausal Theme and Thematic Equatives.Interpreters adopt different strategies to deal with different thematic structrues.In conclusion,for clauses with Simple Theme,interpreters should focus on the identification of Theme and Rheme and pursue concise expression.In Multiple Themes,what interpreters should pay attention to is the Textual Theme and the Experiential Theme.For Clausal Theme,the logic and textual information should be emphasized.In Thematic Equatives,the most important constituent is Rheme,which conveys the information.To solve other problems such as difficulties in identifying Theme and Rheme,the interpreter can do more practice of Theme-Rheme identification.
