The researcher of this paper studies the action verbs of Xuan Zang's translation of the Diamond Sutra by comparing different Chinese versions of Sutra and the method of Sanskrit-Chinese comparative analysis.According to the statistics, this paper concludes that there are about 63 action verbs in Xuan Zang's translation of the Diamond Sutra, including 38 monosyllabic words and 25 disyllabic words. From the perspective of Semantics and using the corpus combined with Fang Yixin and Zhang Jing's classification method(2016),this paper divides the action verbs in Xuan Zang's translation of the Diamond Sutra into 5 categories, including displacement actions, body movement actions, speech actions, sense and cognition actions,as well as occurrence and ending actions. It also depicts the verbs from its source, semantics and usage, and discusses the causes of different translations through the method of Sanskrit-Chinese comparative analysis and the comparison of different Chinese versions of Sutra. In addition, through the description of the action verbs in Xuan Zang's translation and the comparison with other translations, this paper summarizes the characteristics of the language and translation style in Xuan Zang's translation, and makes a brief discussion on the formation of Xuan Zang's translation style and the translation thoughts behind the text.It finds that for some words with a single meaning, which are originated in Chinese and easy to understand.Xuan Zang translated them by inheriting the previous translation methods, such as "circle","favour",and "prostrate",etc.,while for some typical Buddhist terms,Xuan Zang adopted new translation methods in most cases, such as "abandon","prajnapta",etc.Besides, through the study of action verbs, this paper also finds that Xuan Zang preferred to use four-character style in his translation than other translators. In addition, this paper holds that since Xuan Zang's translation is loyal to the source text, and pays attention to the Sanskrit language's repeated chanting style and harmonious rhythm,Xuan Zang attaches great importance to the use of the four-character style in the translation, which in turn makes his translations somewhat redundant. This paper also discusses the formation of Xuan Zang's translation thought and translation style. It believes that Xuan Zang established a national translation field with a complete and rigorous translation process, which objectively created conditions for the formation of his translation style. In addition, through the study of some action verbs,it can be found that there is a certain correspondence between Xuan Zang and his earlier bodhi branch in the translation of Buddhist terms and nouns. This paper thinks that this is related to the translation thoughts of the two translators, who both paid attention to restore the original features of the source text and were in awe of translating sutras. As for the reason why Xuan Zang abandoned the previous translation methods and created new ones.this paper considers that it is related to Xuan Zang's desire to expand the influence of Dharmalaksana Sect established by him,and also hoped to build a Buddhist terminology system through his new translation so as to provide a standard for reference for future generations.
