With the reform of the college entrance examination and the promulgation of new curriculum standards,students and teachers have realized that writing plays an important role in English learning.However,English writing has always been a weak link in middle school English teaching due to the long-standing shackles of old ideas and the neglect of English writing teaching.In addition,students’ writing anxiety is an important emotional factor which hinders students’ writing.Only by writing with a happy mood can students develop their ideas and improve their writing skills.In order to change this situation,Professor Wang Chuming proposed an effective model---Continuation on the basis of his “The Length Approach” in 2012.It asks for selecting a foreign language reader with moderate difficulty and interesting content,then erasing the end and asking the learners to creatively continue the article after reading.Furthermore,to improve the intensity of interaction,he(2018)proposed the Multi-rounds Continuation,which includes “Two-round Continuation” and “Novel-Continuation”.This study takes the form of the Novel-Continuation.The basic operation steps of it are as follows: First,select a vivid and easy-to-understand foreign language novel.After fully understanding the background,the students are required to write from the second chapter,then compare with the original text,and then continue to write the next chapter...until the end.In theory,it can make full use of the alignment,reduce students’ writing anxiety and improve their writing.Therefore,this paper attempts to verify the impact of the Multi-rounds Continuation on students’ writing anxiety and ability.The following two research questions are discussed in detail:(1)Can Multi-rounds Continuation Model reduce senior high school students’ writing anxiety(cognitive anxiety,somatic anxiety and avoidance behavior)?(2)What is the impact of Multi-rounds Continuation Model on students’ writing ability(organization,lexis,content and grammar)?This is an experimental research.The subjects are from two parallel classes in an ordinary high school in Shijiazhuang,Hebei Province.The two classes have the same writing ability and are randomly divided into experimental class and control class.Before theexperiment,the questionnaire---Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory and the test paper of the first semester of Shijiazhuang in the 2017-2018 school year were distributed to the students in order to investigate their current situation of English writing anxiety and ability.During the 12-week experiment,the experimental class biweekly took the Multi-rounds Continuation Model for writing teaching,while the control class still adopted the traditional recitation-copying model.After the experiment,the same questionnaire and the test paper of the first semester of Shijiazhuang in the 2018-2019 school year were issued again to check whether the application of Multi-rounds Continuation has positive impact on students’ English writing anxiety and ability.After the 12-week experiment,the following conclusions were obtained after analyzing the data by SPSS 17.0:(1)Compared with the traditional recitation-copying model,the Multi-rounds Continuation Model can effectively reduce students’ writing anxiety,especially for students’ cognitive anxiety and avoidance behavior.(2)Both the traditional recitation-copying model and the Multi-rounds Continuation Model can improve students’ writing ability to a certain extent,but the effect of Multi-rounds Continuation on improving students’ writing lexis and content is more significant.The teaching implications given by this research are:(1)In the teaching process,teachers need to consider both length and content when choosing the text.The length should be flexible according to the students’ ability.The text should be based on storytelling,the plot should be clear and the content must be extended.It is best to have more hints.(2)Students should be helped to grasp the logic of the article and the direction of the Multi-rounds Continuation tasks.(3)It is necessary to urge students to read back the original text repeatedly and interact with the original text,thus bring out alignment and finally achieve the goal of tightly combining content creation and language imitation.
