With the enormous development of national English curriculum reform and the growing requirement of foreign language competence in modern society, the quality of English teaching in senior high school has become more and more important. Therefore,an advanced and suitable teaching method is needed urgently to improve the quality of English teaching. In previous studies, the experimental research on Scaffolding Instruction involves the teaching of reading, vocabulary, and so on.But in reading,it mainly studies reading interest, reading ability as a whole, etc. The educational stages under research include junior high school, university education, secondary vocational education and higher vocational education. Therefore,to add more evidence, this study explores the effect of Scaffolding Instruction on micro-skills of reading of senior high school students by introducing the Scaffolding Instruction into senior high school English reading teaching.Specifically, this thesis solves this question by solving two detailed research questions.First, can the ability of lexical inference in English reading of senior high school students be improved with Scaffolding Instruction? Second, can the ability of speculating author's viewpoint and attitude in English reading of senior high school students be improved with Scaffolding Instruction? The experiment is carried out in two parallel classes of Grade 10 in No.49 Middle School of Shijiazhuang City,in which 81 students participate. Before the experiment,a pre-test is carried out to verify that there is no significant difference between the experimental class and the control class.During the four-month experiment, the experimental class adopts the Scaffolding Instruction and the control class adopts the usual manner. The results of the final reading test are compared with those of the pre-test.In addition,6 students in the experimental class are interviewed at the end of the experiment. The results show that Scaffolding Instruction can improve senior high school students' ability to infer the meaning of words and to speculate the author's viewpoint and attitude.
