Domestic scholars on English listening teaching has achieved fruitful results in nearly a decade of research.Because of the different research directions and the levels the existing researches contributed to the theoretical construction from different perspectives,but still need to improve in listening teaching research especially in the rural middle school English listening teaching research.Although the importance of "listening" for language teaching and learning in 1982 has been confirmed by language teaching expert Krashen,with the restriction of limited teaching resources and the traditional teaching mode,the importance of listening comprehension in junior middle school English teaching has not got necessary attention,especially in basic English teaching conditions of the rural poor area where the English listening teaching level is generally low.The promulgation and implementation of New Curriculum Standard laid a foundation for the promotion of the position of listening teaching,but how to combine it with the practical situation of students to improve their English listening level is still the problem that junior middle school English teachers need to think about and solve currently.On this basis,in order to further make clear the influencing factors of rural middle school students' English listening ability,comb the present situation of rural middle school students' English listening teaching,find out problems,understand and analyze the feasibility of the present way of problem solving,and to provide advice on the solution of the problems,the author takes the present situation of a middle school in Huanan English listening teaching as the research object,using questionnaire investigation and interview,data investigation and analysis.During the process of analysis of the causes for the results,the author found that the factors that affect students' listening include pronunciation and grammar,vocabulary and students' psychological anxiety,the lack of listening strategies,listening habits and interests,inefficiency of teaching materials,equipment and teachers' professional level.The main cause is the biased cognition of students and teachers on English listening.The school can't provide necessary equipment and the timeliness of retraining opportunities.As a result,pertinent suggestions and comments are given respectively from the aspects of students,technical guidance,teaching strategies,software and hardware equipment,in order to assist rural middle School to improve students' English listening level and teachers' level of English listening teaching.
