| Today’s world is full of technologies,English teaching also has made a change from using a blackboard and a chalk to employing MAI even in rural middle schools in the west part of China.But the related studies on MAI English teaching in China are mainly about the college English teaching in urban areas.Few studies focus on MAI English listening teaching in rural middle schools in the west part of China.Since the basic MAI software and hardware had been equipped in most of the rural middle schools in the west part of China,the effective application of MAI is still very valuable to do more research.This thesis investigates the problems of English listening teaching in rural middle schools in the light of the related theories of MAI on English teaching.It mainly discusses the effects of MAI on English listening teaching in the rural middle schools in western China.Moreover,compared with eastern areas,the MAI on English listening teaching in western areas lags behind for many reasons.In this study,the No.1 Middle School in Menyuan County is taken as an example of this kind.It examines the current situations of MAI on English listening teaching in rural middle schools in western China based on the theory of Cone of Experience by American educator Dale and the Constructivism Learning Theory by Piaget and Vogotsgy.Then the attitudes of teachers and students towards MAI on English listening teaching are explored.This thesis designed the questionnaires and interviews for students and teachers,and two tests for EC and CC.After four months research in the No.1 Middle School in Menyuan County,the data were collected and analyzed in detail to conclude that MAI on English listening teaching in rural middle schools in the west part of China is actually becoming more and more popular among students and teachers.However,the application of MAI on English listening teaching in rural middle schools is in its early stage,there are many problems for teachers to overcome in the future.One of the main problem is that English teachers in rural middle schools in western China are lack of professional knowledge on MAI,and the courseware they use in class are basically from others.Promoting creativity of courseware among the teachers seems essential in applying MAI effectively and improving English performance of the students in rural middle schools.Therefore,it is essential to train the teachers in rural middle schools in the west part of China to effectively apply MAI in English teaching and especially in English listening teaching.The teachers’ professional knowledge and skill of using MAI turns out to increase the students’ English listening skill and as well as their English academic achievement as a whole. |
