Euphemism has a long history in both English and Chinese. The main psychological basis of euphemism is taboo and polite language. When talking about certain topics or using certain words, most people take the form of avoidance to some extent to avoid the possibility of causing displeasure, dissatisfaction or hurting feelings or relationships. In order to express ideas and exchange information, people often take circuitous ways, using vague or pleasant or polite words, this linguistic phenomenon is called euphemism.Conceptual blending is the basic cognitive operation of psychological space. It uses network and dynamic cognitive model to construct meaning. The formation of any concept must go through the blending process of psychological space and input information, which is also the activation process of existing information stored in people?s psychological space. In short, concept blending can construct a mental space network that reflects each other and integrates them into the new space in different ways.Based on this understanding, the core of the blending theory put forward by Fauconnier and Turner is the conceptual blending network, namely the Conceptual Blending Theory.By analyzing death euphemism from the perspective of conceptual blending,we can have a better understanding of euphemism and the conceptual blending theory.Through the systematic study of the English and Chinese euphemisms of death, this thesis had dug out the following findings:1.The applications of the CBT in the construction of the Models in decoding English death euphemisms from different perspectives of religion, military, navigation and drama. At the same time, the applications of the CBT in the construction of the Models in decoding Chinese death euphemisms from different perspectives of religion, military, social class and corpse burial.2.The construction of the semantic integration mechanism can facilitate the the interpretation of the death euphemisms.3.The comparative study between English and Chinese death euphemisms have been carried out and the common similarities and particular differences are explored.4.The motivations that give rise to the similarities and differences between English and Chinese death euphemism have been dug out.5.The construction of the semantic integration mechanism is an effective tool in analyzing death euphemisms which will greatly facilitate the translation of euphemisms between English and Chinese. After fully understanding the theory of euphemism and conceptual blending, this thesis analyzes the English death euphemism and Chinese death euphemism from the perspective of conceptual blending. There are many kinds of death euphemism,in terms of the selection of materials, the death euphemism we choose is closely related to the life of the two nations. For example, both ethnic groups pay special attention to religious beliefs. In ancient times, there were a large number of wars, and Britain was a coastal country. In addition,Shakespeare has a great influence on western literature,so here we choose death euphemism in drama and film for analysis.English speaking countries advocate equality for all,but ancient China?s hierarchy is very strict, and Chinese people are very respectful to their dead relatives,so besides religion and war,Chinese death euphemisms have analyzed the death euphemisms related to hierarchy and the burial of bodies. Then this thesis analyzes the similarities and differences between English and Chinese death euphemisms. The similarity may due to the same values, have the same attitude towards death, treat heroes with respect, but treat villains with disdain. The differences may due to different religious beliefs and different hierarchical concepts.English-speaking countries have always advocated Christianity. They believe that God created all things and should be with God after dying, while China advocates Taoism and Buddhism and in ancient China, the hierarchy was very strict, which is also the causes of differences between English and Chinese euphemisms. Finally, this thesis gives a brief introduction to the implications of this study for English-Chinese translation, and demonstrates the diversity of translation skills from five aspects, which will help us better understand the English and Chinese languages.Euphemism is a very important part of daily life, and death euphemisms also need us to have a deep understanding, which will be of great help to our daily communication. From the perspective of conceptual blending, this thesis analyzes death euphemism from various aspects,at the level of knowledge of conceptual integration and death euphemism, what scholars have not described and explained in the past has been added,so that readers can gain a new perspective and a deeper understanding.
