The Study On Artistic Idea Of Tian Gong Kai Wu's Illustrations

The "Tian Gong Kai Wu" published by Song Yingxing in the Ming Dynasty was printed in the tenth year of the Chongzhen of the late Ming Dynasty(1637).It is a scientific and technical book of integrated agriculture and manufacturing.The writing of "Tian Gong Kai Wu" is mainly due to the social and ideological changes in the late Ming Dynasty and the development of technology and production technology at that time.The 123 illustrations attached to "Tian Gong Kai Wu" benefit from the rigorous academic attitude of the author,Song Yingxing,and the influence of the splendid scenes of prints in the late Ming Dynasty.The one-hundred and twenty-three illustrations are woodblock prints that graphically and accurately describe and supplement the textual content of "Tian Gong Kai Wu" in the form of images.Its expression form is the traditional line-drawing technique.The depiction of figures,animals,tools and scenes is very elaborate.And the illustrations in the book are both "illustration" and "image".The former associates itself with the text and is under the statute of the text,which can be regarded as interpretation or supplementation of the text;the latter is more freedom.When considering the illustrations as "images" and getting rid of the control of the text,they gain more independent speech rights and become a mirror image of the social landscape and artistic creation in the late Ming Dynasty.This article analyzes and summarizes the artistic features and artistic concepts of illustra-tions through the study of the dual identity of the illustrations in the "Tian Gong Kai Wu".It is associated with the comprehensive phenomenon of modern social art based on the above research contents.
