Qu Shijing(1936 ~),a scholar translator,is an important translator and researcher on Virginia Woolf.Since the early 1980 s,he has begun to study Woolf and her stream of consciousness novels.Virginia Woolf(1882-1941),the pioneer of British modernism and feminism in the 20 th century,is also a representative writer of stream-of-consciousness fiction.Qu Shijing's translations and studies of Woolf have made greatly contributions to the promotion of Woolf's research in China, and have also exerted a good influence in the international academia. From the perspective of Lefevere's manipulation theory, this paper studies the role of scholar translator Qu Shijing in literary translation under the control of specific ideology, mainstream poetics and patronage. This thesis contains five parts, namely the introduction, literature review, theoretical framework, and study on how the scholar translator Qu Shijing promoted Woolf's dissemination and acceptance in the new period in the process of translation research and conclusion part. With methods of literature collation and text analysis, the author makes a comprehensive study of Qu Shijing's translations and studies' achievements according to the three elements influencing translation in Lefevere's manipulation theory.Specifically, the thesis is carried out from three dimensions.Firstly,it explores the translation and research achievements of Qu Shijing in the specific ideology of the new period.Secondly, the study analyzes scholar translator Qu Shijing's promotion on the acceptance of stream of consciousness,Woolf, and her novels in the new period of China. Finally, the study investigates Qu Shijing's translation strategies, under the control of poetics. It is found that Qu Shijing relies on the scholar's ability and translator's skill, chooses the translation materials reasonably and adjusts the translation strategies timely in literary translation.By virtue of the scholar translator's identity and rich translation and research achievements,Woolf's dissemination and acceptance in the new period of China have been promoted. Finally, the cross-role interaction between the role of scholar and translator has promoted the dissemination of heterogeneous cultures.
