The dissertation takes the niche of the Giant Lushena in the Fengxian Cave of Longmen Grottoes as the research object.From the Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty,the development of Giant Buddha became a trend from the Xinjiang region to the central and southern regions of the Central Plains and the southwestern region.The Fengxian Cave and the Lushena Buddha and its niche are one of the more typical and relatively special examples.Taking the Fengshen Temple Lushena as the direct research object,the dissertation analyses the construction of the Lushena Buddha and the multiple factors that caused it.The dissertation focuses on the niche of the Lushena Buddha,trying to conduct a comprehensive and diversified study by deconstructing the image with different perspective of visual space,image form and historical background.Firstly,it discusses the transformation of Buddhism niche space from closed to open,and the creation of viewing space.Then it discusses the source of the style of Buddha image and the political metaphor behind the image.Finally,it starts with the information provided by the imagery and analyzes the specific political background and its connection with the Pure Land faith.In terms of materials,the thesis involves historical classics,Buddhist classics,grottoes,archaeological excavations,etc.The method is mainly guided by archaeological typology,imageology and formal style analysis.
