At present,there are many researches on the self-efficacy of English learning in urban junior high schools and universities in China,but there is still very few researches on the self-efficacy of English learning in rural junior high school.Therefore,this paper first summarizes the current research status and relevant theories on English learning self-efficacy at home and abroad,which will serve as the theoretical support for the research.Inspired by previous relevant literature,this paper adopted the comprehensive scale of self-efficacy compiled by Bandura and Ralf Schwarzer,a clinical and health psychologist in Germany.On this basis,a questionnaire on English learning was designed to explore the status of students' self-efficacy in English learning.The participants in this survey are the students of Grade Three in Renyi No.1 junior high school,a rural junior high school in Renyi town.This study tries to solve the following three problems:(1)What is the status of self-efficacy of rural junior high school students?(2)Is there a significant correlation between English learning self-efficacy and English performance?(3)What are the reasons of low English learning self-efficacy in rural junior high school?The results show that:(1)Rural junior high school students have low self-efficacy in English learning;Boys' sense of self-efficacy is slightly lower than girls',but there is no significant difference between them.(2)There is a significant correlation between students' self-efficacy and their English learning results.(3)The main reasons for the low self-efficacy of English learning for rural junior high school students include: poor learning and living environment and limited conditions,parents do not pay enough attention to their children's study,too much learning pressure,as well as poor knowledge foundation of students themselves,lack of “risky” behavior in language learning and so on.Finally,in order to cultivate and improve the level of self-efficacy of rural junior high school students,the author puts forward some effective strategies from the actual situation of junior high school English teaching,that is,to help students to set reasonable goals,give students positive expectations and create a relaxed classroom environment.
