Father Presence refers to father's psychological nearness and accessibility to the child, which differs from the external state of child's co-residence with his or her father. With the rapid development of modern society, the traditional role of Chinese father, which is making money and supporting the family financially is changing. However, the way most fathers get along with their children has little change. Some families look good externally, but the psychological father presence of the children is not that good. This affects the children from bottom to top, including influences on characteristics and social communication. The emphasis on father presence is never too much. This study expects to find how father presence affect gender role and social self-efficacy among college students with questionnaires, and explore the path of the influence,to enrich the research in the field of father presence.Meanwhile, this study tries to understand the father presence of college students in a direct and vivid way through individual interviews, and explores the influence of father presence. The interview will supplement the results of the questionnaire research, and provide valuable suggestions for the individual's self-improvement and for family education. This study combines the methods of questionnaire survey and qualitative interview.402 college students participated in the survey on the questionnaires of Father's Position Scale(FPQ-RB),the College Student Gender Role Scale(CSRI-50),and the College Students' Interpersonal Effectiveness Questionnaire. At the same time,7 students are interviewed on the topic of father presence. The interview data is encoded and analyzed to further understand father presence of college students. Conclusions are as follows.1.The overall level of the father presence is a little bit higher than the medium level among college students. The overall level of father presence shows no difference on whether he or she is an only child or not, where the family lives, but there is difference in whether the child live together with the child. There's no difference in the levels between genders, but boys and girls do have difference in the perception of father presence.2.Of the four types of gender role of college students, the androgyny type and the undifferentiated type occupy a major proportion, while the proportion of masculine type and famine type is relatively low.Masculinity and femininity show significant difference in gender, family locations, whether they are only children, whether they are student cadres,or where they live.3.The social self-efficacy of college students is generally at a medium-to-high level. The overall interpersonal efficacy of boys is higher than that of girls, and there is no significant difference in grades, majors and family locations, whether they are only children,or whether they are student cadres in classes.4.Father presence, gender role and social self-efficacy are significantly positively correlated, and the gender role plays a partial intermediary role between father presence and social self-efficacy.
