Writing is an important part for senior high school English learners and is the main form of language output. However, the English writing ability of senior high school students is not optimistic at present, especially their verb-noun collocation which is full of errors. Therefore, the analysis of verb-noun collocation errors in senior high school students' English compositions can help teachers know the situation of senior high school students' verb-noun learning and mastery on the one hand;and on the other hand,it has certain enlightening effect on English teaching. In addition, scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of research on verb-noun collocation errors, but there are few studies based on self-build corpus about the errors of verb-noun collocation in senior high school students' writing.Based on transfer theory and error analysis theory,300 senior high school students from six classes of a senior high school in Dalate Banner,Erdos City were selected as the subjects of this study.By collecting 1500 English compositions from the senior high school students of different grades,a corpus of 134609 words was built to classify and summarize verb-noun collocation errors.Antconc3.2.4w retrieval software was used to analyze the data in order to answer the two research questions:1.What are the types of verb-noun collocation errors in senior high school students' English compositions?2.What are the causes of verb-noun collocation errors in senior high school students' English compositions? There are 3383 verb-noun collocation errors were retrieved by using the corpus retrieval tool Antconc3.2.4w.According to Nesselhaulf's error classification method and combined with the actual errors of senior high school English learners, the errors were divided into six categories. Then the possible causes of verb-noun collocation errors were discussed from the perspective of transfer. The results showed that: Firstly,The verb-noun collocation errors in senior high school students' English writing can be divided into six categories: wrong choice ofverbs;wrong choice of nouns;misuse;misuse of prepositions, inappropriate use of determiners and errors of syntactic structures.Among them, the number of misuse errors, wrong choice of verbs, errors of syntactic structures and wrong choice of nouns are 994,813,712 and 513 respectively, while misuse of prepositions, inappropriate use of determiners are 169 and 182 respectively.Their proportion in verb-noun collocation errors is 29%,24%,21%,15%,5% and 6%.Secondly,from the perspective of language transfer, through careful statistical analysis,it is concluded that verb-noun collocation errors are caused by the negative influence of mother tongue. What's more, second language learners lack second language experience and neglected the regularity of verb-noun collocation, which lead to grammatical errors in verb-noun collocation errors.Learners adopt the methods of creation, avoidance and simplification to achieve communicative purposes, causing some verb-noun collocation errors.Improper teaching methods and learning materials can also cause the verb-noun collocation errors. When learners face certain verb-noun collocation rules in second language, but there is no corresponding concept in their mother tongue, the learners directly construct the concept based on second language,so the incorrect form of construction leads to errors in the form of second language output, resulting in verb-noun collocation errors. Finally, based on the research results, the researcher gives some suggestions for improving the verb-noun collocation errors in senior high school English writing, and also discusses the limitations of the research and suggestions for future research.
