As a famous translator in modern China,Zou Jiang made remarkable achievements in translation practice.The works that he translated involves more than20 countries,and up to 60 famous writers'poetry,fiction and fairy tales were included.His primary representative works were Selected Poems by the Black Poets(??????),Standard–bearer of Peace(???????),Selected Poems of Neruda(???????),The Rising Sun(???????)etc.In addition,he achieved exceptional accomplishments in the construction and development of Chinese translation theory,many of which were profound and thought-provoking.However,it's a pity that few people of academia paid sufficient attention to Zou Jiang's translation neither in practice nor in theory study.In order to help more people understand his unique contributions in Chinese translation career,the thesis explores his translation activities comprehensively and systematically.The paper consists of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction part,discussing Zou Jiang's life experience and the purpose,significance and structure of the study.Chapter Two introduces his achievements as a translator of literary works,and the current studies.Chapter Three explores and analyzes Zou Jiang's translation practice.It probes into his translation strategies through comparative analysis between source language and target language,and summarizes the features of his translation,discovering he was the first translator who translated Kibabayev's poetry into China;he was one of the highest achievers about Neruda's poems in Chinese contemporary translation and he also paid persistent attention to black people's poems.His value of translation practice is also revealed in this part.Chapter Four evaluates his views on translation,digging into the features of inheritance,practicality and farsightedness,and discusses the value of his views.Chapter Five is the conclusion,which summarizes the major findings,points out the limitations of the thesis and offers suggestions for further study.Zou's translation activities have made great contributions to both the translation practice and theory in China.He helped us not only broaden our horizon but also promote the communication and development of culture between China and west.
