A Survey Of Autonomous English Learning For Senior High School Students In Internet Environment

The world is changing for better day by day.Human science and technology are increasing at an unprecedented rate.Autonomous learning is of great significance for social development and individual growth.When society develops into a learning society,people should also prepare for lifelong learning.In order to meet the needs of lifelong education,school education must also implement autonomous learning.To a certain extent,the development of network technology has further promoted the development of autonomous learning.In internet environment,both the choice of learning resources and learning interest has been strengthened.For the above reasons,basing on the humanistic learning theory and constructivism learning theory,the author investigated 263 students of Grade 10 and Grade 11 of three senior high schools in the city of Hengyang,Hunan Province by questionnaire.Then,further interviews were conducted with 6 students.The questionnaire mainly investigated the following questions: 1)what is the present situation of senior high school students' English autonomous learning in the internet environment? 2)What is the difference in English autonomous learning between female and male students in internet environment?3)What is the difference in English autonomous learning between Grade 10 students and Grade 11 students in internet environment? Based on the results of the questionnaire,further interviews were conducted with students.The results illustrate that 1)the present situation of the students' autonomous learning in internet environment in Hengyang isgenerally at the middle level,and the students' scores are relatively lower in the dimension of English autonomous learning strategies and methods used in internet environment;2)There is significant difference between male and female students and female students have better autonomous English learning ability;3)In the comparison of grades,the obvious difference exists between Grade 10 students and Grade 11 students and the latter have better autonomous English learning ability than the former.Result from interview found that most students' learning goal is relatively solitary.They are able to carry out English autonomous learning by using internet resources but lack targeted guidance in the process of learning.The ability of using and screening information is not strong and it is difficult for students to resist the temptation of the network.Based on the theory of humanism and constructivism and combined with the problems in the investigation,it is recommended that students should enhance their consciousness of actively acquiring knowledge;male students had better spend more time on English learning,exchange learning methods with excellent students and find suitable learning methods for themselves.Grade 10 students should adapt to the high school life as soon as possible and strengthen the ability of autonomous learning.All senior high students are required to reinforce their ability of self-monitoring and self-evaluation,and their ability to apply information on the Internet.From the perspective of teachers,with the view of teachers of constructivism learning theory,they can present students with some high-quality online English learning resources.Therefore,they have to renew their knowledge reserve in time;make conscious use of the multimedia equipment provided by the school;help students to make detailed and reasonable English learning plans and train students on certain learning strategies.Teachers also should strengthen the students' autonomous learning ability,pay more attention to the male students' autonomous English learning,improve their interest in English learning and enhance their motivation to learn English.From the angle of the school,the school can provide technical support,such as the establishment of a free campus network English resource bank.It is better to reserve an amount of autonomous learning time each week so that students can realize that autonomous learning is an important and natural way of learning.For the society,the parents should guide their children to utilize the internet resources correctly.At the sametime,government ought to increase the investment of multimedia equipment in high schools.
