The new curriculum reform emphasizes that in the process of teaching,teachers should improve students' learning methods.To change the current situation of curriculum implementation,which emphasizes too much on learning,rote learning and mechanical training,to advocate students' active participation,willingness to explore and diligence in doing things,and to cultivate students'ability to collect and process information,analyze and solve problems,as well as their ability to communicate and cooperate.Autonomous learning is an important learning concept and learning method developed on this basis.As far as its objectives,the autonomous learning pays more attention to the learners'positive,active learning motivations and conscious,continual ability of making actions.Teachers need to focus on creating the supportive and encouraging atmosphere in order to train students' autonomous learning.Therefore,the research content of this paper is the ability of high school students to learn English autonomously.The theoretical basis is humanism and meta-cognitive theory.The research tools are questionnaires and interviews.The author investigates the current situation of students' autonomous learning from four aspects of English self-learning ability,tries to find out the problems of high school students in English autonomous learning and the causes of these problems.and proposes and improves measures for these problems.Through investigation and research,the writer finds that the overall level of autonomous learning ability of students in senior hiah school is not high.mainly in the following aspects:firstly,most students know little about the types of English strategies;secondly,students' awareness of autonomous learning is not high,mainly manifested in students' inability to actively set their own learning goals in the process of English learning;thirdly,students' motivation for English autonomous learning is insufficient.The results show that most of the students' learning motivation comes from external motivation.For example,most of the students learn English in order to enter their target colleges smoothly or to get praise from teachers or peers.On the basis of previous studies,the author reveals students' existing problems in English autonomous learning in senior high,and proposes corresponding solutions to the existing problems.The author hopes that these suggestions will provide useful references for future researchers and teachers.
