The construction of public signs in scenic spots is a key link to improve the quality of Guiyang's tourism service, and also an important part of Guiyang's urban construction.Whether the translation of public signs is standard will not only affect the life and travel of foreign tourists in Guiyang, but also affect the image of Guiyang as a tourist city and the spread of Guizhou culture. Therefore,it is necessary to establish an English-Chinese bilingual language environment in Guiyang scenic spots and provide standard bilingual public signs. It is necessary for us to investigate the status quo of Chinese-English translation of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots, investigate and analyze whether there are translation errors, and then put forward effective translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos Theory. This study makes a summary of the Skopos Theory and public signs, and investigates public signs of eight major scenic spots of Guiyang.Chinese-English public signs samples are collected. And under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the samples collected are analyzed. This paper analyzes the translation status of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots, especially the errors in the English translation of public signs.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, then corresponding translation strategies are proposed, and the public signs lacking English translation in the scenic spots are translated, and the suggested translation is provided for the reference of the makers of public signs in the scenic spots. This paper consists of six parts. The first chapter is the introduction;Chapter two is the overview of public signs and literature review.Chapter three is an overview ofSkopos Theory. The fourth chapter analyzes the translation of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots.Chapter five is the Chinese-English translation strategy and translation practice of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Chapter six is the conclusion, summarizing the main findings, limitations and shortcomings of the study and suggestions for future research. The paper comes to the conclusions: First,Skopos Theory can guide the Chinese-English translation of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots. With the guidance of Skopos Theory and combined with the public sign materials obtained from field research,it is found that there are translation errors in public signs in Guiyang scenic spots.Second, the translation errors include spelling errors, grammatical errors, case mistakes, and substitution of Chinese Pinyin for English translation.Pragmatic errors include inconsistent translation,word-for-word translation, and Chinglish.Third, based on the field research on the status quo of English translation of public signs in Guiyang scenic spots and combined with the characteristics of public signs collected, this paper proposes to adopt translation strategies such as "reverse translation,non-translation and reduction translation" under the principle of purpose,"imitation translation" under the principle of coherence, and "borrowing" under the principle of fidelity.
