The E-C Translation Report On Raising Trump (Chapters 1-2)

This is an English-Chinese translation report based on the Chapters 1 to 2 of the book Raising Trump written by Ivana Trump.This book mainly introduces Trump's family life,Western parenting model and puts forward the new concept that the children should be possessed with independent spirit.The translation report firstly introduces the book,analyzes linguistic features of the source text and lists five kinds of translation difficulties,which are translation of proper nouns,compound adjectives,attributive clauses,passive clauses and idioms.After carefully making an analysis of these difficulties,several translation methods are put forward to solve them respectively:(1)There exist plenty of proper nouns in the source text,so the methods of transliteration and annotation are applied to translate them.(2)The method of using Chinese four-character structure can be used to translate compound adjective,which creates a sense of beauty in form.(3)Attributive clauses occur frequently in the original text,the translator selects the methods of preposition and postposition after careful consideration.(4)According to Chinese expression habits,conversion of voice is adopted to translate the passive sentences.(5)When meeting with the translation of idioms,the translator adopts the method of paraphrasing.At last,the report makes a summary of translation practice as well as offers lessons and experiences.
