With the constant promotion of English curriculum reform and the proposition of national English curriculum standards for general high school,the aim in high school stage focuses on training the comprehensive ability to use English.However,the form of which is based on the overall development of linguistic knowledge and skills.English homework,as the effective supplement of class teaching,is an important section in English teaching process.The scientific and effective homework is beneficial to help students have a good command of basic grammar and skills in English learning.Meanwhile,cultivate their active emotional attitude as well as a good cultural awareness,eventually to improve the development of English comprehensive ability among senior students.For this purpose,the study is to redesign the homework accounting for the following questions according to the English learning conditions.Q1.How much can the layered design of English homework affect English performance of students at all levels?Q2.what advice will students give on the layered homework design?The participants of the action research are 63 students in Class2,Senior 1 and 62 students in Class 1,Senior 1 in Qianxi High school where the author works.Based on the textbook of compulsory three from FLTRP and grounded by the theories of Vygotsky's Zone of ProximateDevelopment,Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence and Constructionist,the homework is designed at three levels in accordance with the students' different knowledge levels.Using questionnaire and experimental method,the paper takes down to the action research of the layered homework design in senior one.The author employs the admission test in the second semester of senior 1 to make a pre-test towards the experimental class and other class and meanwhile,a post-test using the final exam would be made after the trial.There is not a big difference between the trial class and the other one according to the comparison result.However,the author puts the layered homework design into the experimental class after the test and the grade has been largely improved in the class.Specifically,the author discusses the principle of layered method in English homework design,and the last chapter is the research's main conclusion,limitations and the suggestions for the layered homework design.Through the analysis of the research,the author found that it's reasonable to implement a large-scale layered homework in senior 1.The practice of the layered English homework can promote the English teaching,arouse the students' interest in learning English and enhance their confidence in learning English well.
