system.As an important part of the values of the Enlightenment period,the concept of honor became the lingering permanent spirit of the Western people.In the ancient Greek and Medieval periods,the concept of honor was the external dimension of the concept of honor based on the concept of social hierarchical and inequality,specifically embodied in the heroic concept of honor under the influence of normative theory,the purposive concept of honor under the influence of teleology,Thomas Aquinas’ concept of honor of religious belief and the feudal hierarchy under the influence of Chivalry culture.During the Enlightenment period,the concept of honor was the inherent dimension of concept of honor based on the modern values of equality and freedom.The specific manifestation is the value character of honor displayed from the development of respect,dignity,etc.,namely,the value externality exhibited by Hobbes’ s concept of honor,the value relativity exhibited by Rousseau’s concept of honor,and the value internality showed by Kant’s concept of honor.Therefore,the transform of the concept of honor in the period of the Enlightenment is mainly a change from the external honor based on the traditional values to the internal honor based on the modern values.The development and transformation of the concept of honor is based on the specific changes in the concept of honor.The specific connotation of honor changes with the changes of the times.However,the honor of any era reveals people’s attitude towards themselves and the attitude of society towards him.As a concept of moral consciousness and an ethical category,honor comes from self-evaluation of oneself and evaluation from society and others.Therefore,to a certain degree,honor and value have similarities,that is,both are a kind of relationship category and are considered from the perspective of purpose.And the concept of honor is a kind of values,which is the relationship between the part and the whole.The development of values influences the evolution of the concept of honor.On the contrary,different understandings of honor can also show different values.Researching the transform of the concept of honor in the Western Enlightenment period can deepen and broaden the field of thought research in the Enlightenment period,on the other hand,it will help guide people to reflect the modern honor life.By studying the transform of concept of honor,we reviewed the differences between traditional values and modern values,rethought the development trend of modern values,and analyzed and solved the problems existing in real life.This article mainly studies the transform of the concept of honor in the Western Enlightenment period from four parts: the first chapter analyses the concept of honor based on unequal traditional values theoretically in ancient Greece and medieval times.Manifesting the philosophical development logic of the concept of honor concretely is to pave the way for the transform of the concept of honor in the Enlightenment period.In the second chapter,after analyzing the concept of honor during Renaissance,the specific transform and reasons of the concept of honor are expounded.The reasons are mainly reflected in two aspects: in terms of economic development and social structure,and in terms of the social value orientation of equality and freedom.The third chapter,based on the analysis of the ideas and the explanation of background and reasons before the transform of the concept of honor,mainly reveals the transform of the concept of honor in the Enlightenment period by analyzing the ethical values of the three stages character’s thought of the Enlightenment(Hobbes,Rousseau,and Kant).That is,on account of the analysis of the philosophy theory,it explores the logical evolution of the concept of honor in the Enlightenment period.This is the main part of the article.The fourth chapter is the sublimation part of the article.After an in-depth analysis of the transform of the concept of honor in the Enlightenment period,and in light of the reality of the development of modern concept of honor,the background and characteristics of the development of modern concept of honor are further explained and the development of modern concept of honor is enlightened.In this regard,there are three considerations: the relationship between
