Eco-literature is a new form of literature, which is brought about by the awakening of human ecological consciousness and the deep reflections of modern civilization. It originated in the United States, and the core concept of it is ecological systems perspective, ecological holism and ecological relationism. At the beginning of the 21 st century, the achievements of ecological literature and ecological philosophy in Europe and America were systematically introduced, which provided an important reference for the development of ecological literature in China as well as a new guide for China's brown writing,i.e.desert writing.Nowadays in the literary circle, the works about Northwest China's desert areas written by West China Writer Group have been a remarkable scenery, and scholars are paying much attention to Xue Mo's,Guo Xuebo's,Tang Datian's as well as Mo Yue's desert writing, all of whom are desert novelists.Contrastingly,Yang Xianping and his works, where we can see Deep Green and a strong sense of place, are less popular and deserve more concern from the literary circle.By means of document analysis, close reading, comparative analysis and interdisciplinary research, based on the bioregionalism theory, this thesis will probe into Yang Xianping's texts of desert writing from three aspects: weather & landscape, plants & animals, and history & culture. This is where two innovations are, that is,to review West China Writer Group's desert research for the first time;to study China's desert writing with a unique and novel bioregionalism view for the first time.By analyzing and discussing the texts of Yang Xianping's Badain Jaran proses, this thesis intends to provide some reference for contemporary China'sdesert writing. And in turn,it hopes to provide some potential reference for the creation of harmonious man-earth relationship, especially between man and desert.
