Japanese animation works are very outstanding in many aspects, including the content, performance and technology. They play an important role in the world animation field. The tragic spirit of the Japanese nation is pretty prominent, and tragedy aesthetics is one of the representative features of the Japanese national aesthetic tradition, which has a great influence on Japanese literature and art creation, and deeply influenced the Japanese animated movies.Studying the tragic consciousness in Contemporary Japanese animated movies is of great significance to better understand and study Japanese animated movies. The thesis attempts to analyze the connotation of tragic consciousness in modern Japanese animated movies in the context of Eagleton’s Tragedy Theory.Through the analysis of three aspects, which includes the tragic conflict in Japanese animation, the heroine of the tragedy, and the tragic effect,it explores the appearance and aesthetic significance of tragic consciousness in Japanese animation. On this basis, this thesis explores the transformation of Japanese tragic consciousness in the contemporary era, especially the influence of the Second World War on Japanese tragic consciousness. In western tragic theories, the mainstream opinion remains centering on western tragic experiences, while ignoring the possibility of tragedies in Asia and other regions except for the west. However, the tragic aesthetics view centering in the west has got a great change since it enters the so-called western postmodernism. This is mainly reflected in the construction and development of contemporary tragedy theories, which are represented by Williams and Eagleton, the western Marxist aestheticians.Even in nowadays, tragedy,as the highest form of literature, still has it’s important aesthetic value. It has a significant meaning to study the tragedy consciousness of Japanese current animated movies, for the sake of better understanding and studying Japanese animated movies. At the same time, this also contains a huge referential value for the study of Chinese contemporary tragedy esthetics thoughts. While from a dialectical perspective,it may be more meaningful to elucidate the tragic consciousness in Japanese contemporary animated movies by using Eagleton’s theory. |
