As a creator, the translator plays an inevitable role of subjectivity in the process of translation. The study of the subjectivity of translators has become a hot topic in the field of translation research at home and abroad. Many theories of translation research, such as Skopos,Manipulative school's theory and Deconstructivism approach, etc.,provide strong theoretical support for the study of the subjectivity of translators.Scholar Zha Mingjian defined the subjectivity of translators in this way:in order to achieve the goal of translation, the translator,as the subject of translation, would show his subjectivity in the process of translation while respecting the object of translation.Initiative,Passivity, and Aim-orientation are three characters of the subjectivity of translators. The three characters are dialectically unified in the subjectivity of translators.Ma Junwu,Su Manshu and Hu Shi have translated The Isles of Greece, which is excerpted from Don Juan written by Byron, and left three different Chinese translated versions. This thesis makes a systematic,in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the subjectivity of translators respectively from the features of Initiative,Passivity and Aim-orientation.It reaches a conclusion that the three different Chinese translated versions of The isles of Greece embody different features of subjectivity of translators of the three translators. In terms of Initiative,Ma Junwu's version makes some additions and deletions in the translated version;Su Manshu's version uses Chinese classical and ancient diction;based on the former versions,Hu Shi translates The isles of Greece again and supplies annotations. In terms of Passivity, all the three versions are completed before the period of May 4~thh Movement in China. The choice of translating The isles of Greece is influenced by the historical background at that time.Ma Junwu's version is in seven-words song style;Su Manshu's version is in ancient five-words poem;Hu Shi's version is in Sao style created by Qu Yuan,a great patriotic poet in ancient China. The styles of Chinese translated versions of The isles of Greece all can not been able to go beyond the constraints of forms of traditional Chinese poetry. In terms of Aim-orientation,Ma Junwu aims to express his strong patriotic enthusiasm,Su Manshu aims to express his spirit of pursuing freedom and dreams, and Hu Shi aims to present his cultural innovation by exploring the development of Chinese poetic form.
