A Study Of Prophetic And Illusory Dream In Fictions

Dream narration can be divided into prophetic and illusory dream narration.Western and Chinese dream narration both have their own achievements,they have a total different developing history,tradition and cultural background.If we want to know more about these two kinds of dreams,we should read and learn relative dream works,have a good knowledge of their developing progress,compare with each other and find out the cultural background behind their similarities and differences.This thesis picks dream narration in Ming and Qing Dynasties of China and the late 19 th century to the early 20 th century of west.The first two chapters mainly talk about two kinds of dream narration in Chinese and western fictions.They are prophetic dream and illusory dream.The third chapter mainly tries to analyze the similarities of prophetic dream narration and the fourth chapter is from the differences of illusory dream narration.The last chapter analyzes the cultural causes that lead to these differences and similarities.From these chapters,we can have a better understanding of two kinds of dream narration in Chinese and western culture from their similarities and differences.This thesis analyzes it not only from the angle of literary criticism,but also from philosophical and cultural aspects so as to make a comprehensive elaboration on these two kinds of dream narration.
