After the World War ?,since the national strength of the United Kingdom has gotten weak,and the national economy has been hardly developed,various fields in the UK society all closely followed the United States of America,and the art at that time also showed a series of trends of adsorbing and integrating emerging artistic concepts of the USA and other European countries.Growing up in this diversified art environment,Euan Uglow learns modern art essentials of various countries in the world to serve his own painting skills,and steadfastly improves his artistic ability.He simplifies the painting subject,and proposes an artistic form of “simplicity”,so that the works present the effect of “simple but great”.The works of Euan Uglow are collected by many world-famous art museums and galleries.Though compared with most of artists,Euan Uglow creates fewer works,but each of his works is extremely exquisite and intriguing,presenting the incomparable “beauty of simplicity”.This thesis takes the paintings of Euan Uglow as a leading clue,gives priority on “the beauty of simplicity” of the paintings,and strives to get further understanding on his paintings by means of analyzing the reason for forming the simplicity style and also analyzes the painting works.This thesis comprises four chapters,wherein chapter I briefly introduces the definition and aesthetic value of simplicity,so as to provide theoretical supports for the analysis on the paintings of Euan Uglow;chapter ? analyzes the factors that influence “the beauty of simplicity”of the paintings of Euan Uglow,and by means of learning the life experience and historical background of the artist,determines the reasons for forming “the beauty of simplicity” in his works;chapter ?I,as the main part of this thesis,considers from the expression forms of the simplicity in the paintings,and analyzes and studies “the beauty of simplicity” in the paintings from the aspects of model,color and emotion,so as to further determine the artistic values and aesthetic pursuits of the works of Euan Uglow;and chapter IV,considering from the art achievements of famous domestic artists influenced by Euan Uglow and the inspiration the author gets during study,discusses the influence of “the beauty of simple” in the paintings of Euan Uglow on Chinese paintings.“History is mirror through which the past and future can be learned”,and the author expects that by studying “the beauty of simplicity” of the paintings of Euan Uglow,a successful example can be provided to people who engage in the painting art in China,so as to find out a clear wayforward the future.
