Abstract/Summary:
At the beginning of the 20th century,a wave of anti-traditional art appeared in the West, breaking the original aesthetic value.Various artistic schools and cultural thoughts stirred waves in the traditional art,and western art exhibition showed unprecedented complexity. In such a rapidly changing artistic environment,British art has also been influenced by the constant absorption of artistic expressions from the United States and other countries.Artists gradually shifted from inheriting traditional techniques and forms to focusing more on personal expression of emotion.During this period, many famous artists appeared in Britain, such as Francis Bacon,Lucian Freud, etc.Euan Uglow is another British contemporary art master after them.Influenced by the post-war art trend,Euan not only inherited the experience of traditional painting but also absorbed the concept of modernist painting. He not only opened up a new painting language, but also presented his pure inner world, walking freely between traditional painting and modern art.In almost every work of Euan Uglow, some trace can be seen, which is due to his unique method of observation, trace throughout his picture, play a crucial role. This paper will explore from four directions:The first chapter mainly introduces the significance of choosing the subject of "Traces of Intention--With the Paintings of Euan Uglow",a review of the research status at home and abroad,as well as the content and research methods of the paper. The second chapter mainly explores the formation of Ewan Uglow’s artistic style from his life experience and painting style. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of traces in his paintings, briefly describes the formation of traces in western paintings and the embodiment of traces in The paintings of Ewan Uglo, and compares with the art style of Giacometti at the same time. The last chapter summarizes the significance of Ewan Uglow’s painting and its influence on my creation. The first time I saw Euan’s paintings was in the book "Contemporary Figurative Painting".A few of his paintings deeply attracted me,and in further research and exploration,I was even more moved by his painting spirit.I hope that through the study of the painting form of Euan Uglow, can play a role.
