The Shi family of Luoyang in the Northern Song Dynasty was originally a small family that lived in Beiyan(now the Yanqing area of Beijing)during the Five Dynasties.After the first year of Tang Tianyou(904),his family ancestor Shi Yanwei moved from Beijing,HebeiProvince to Luoyang,HenanProvince,and the family members began to grow.The family was buried here,hence the name Luoyang Shishi.The rise of the Shi family is different from that of the great families who started in the early Song Dynasty with the imperial examination or military merits.Instead,they rely on the third generation family member Shi Xizai to be the patriarch of Taizong,thus becoming one of the emerging families of the Northern Song Dynasty.By the fourth generation of Shi Zhongli,the Shi family reached its peak.At the time of the fifth generation,the Shi family quickly declined.Later,when the sixth generation Shizu Wen,the Shi family ushered in a short-lived resurgence.After Shi Zuwen's death,the Shi family fell again and eventually disappeared.The reasons for the rise,prosperity and resurgence of the Shi family in Luoyang are not related to the imperial examination system.This is rare in the Song Dynasty known as the "Cultural Examination Society".Although the Shi family has been married to the family to maintain their family voices after the decline,the whole family has a tendency to choose marriage that doesn't care if the other party is a meritorious family.And the attitude of choosing a husband should be cautious in choosing a wife.The association with the bachelor's degree and the poetry and the family style of the scholarly family have always run through the whole process of family development,which makes the Shi family always maintain the status of a literary family.Therefore,the Shi family of Luoyang has acombination of politics,culture and scholarship,and presents the characteristics of a complex family.The Shi family of Luoyang in the Northern Song Dynasty had a total of more than 150 years of the Eight Dynasties,almost always with the Northern Song Dynasty.The article analyzes the role of various factors in the rise,prosperity and decline of the family through the investigation of the official family members,in-laws,and friends of different generations of the Sh? family.Through the interaction between the Shi family and the Northern Song Dynasty,the internal and external environment of the Northern Song Dynasty was examined.
