From the perspective of topology, translation can be considered as a process of transforming the constants. The constants in languages involve meanings expressed by the author and logical relations hidden in the underlying structures. Thus, the essence of the process lies in seeking the reasonable expressions of meanings and logical relations in the target language, which requires the translator to grasp underlying structures of the source language, without paying more attention to the syntax.Chosen as the source text, the popular science text is characterized by accurate expressions and easy readability. Both the information conveyed by language units in the source language and stylistic conventions of the target language deserve particular attention. This paper, therefore, after full absorption of the topological theory, attempts to put forward strategies of identifying the constants and making suitable modulations to the variables from a microscopic level of words and sentences. Finally, the application of translation strategies is exemplified and analyzed to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of topological theory in guiding translations. |
