Research On The History Of The Ancient Tibet's Weights And Measures

This paper studies the history of ancient Tibet's weights and measures against the backdrop of the establishment of Tibetan local government and the formation and development of political systems in past dynasties based on the cut-in point of the history of the ancient Tibet's weights and measures to analyze its history,contents,forms,characteristics,practice mechanism,principles and the evolution law of the ancient weights and measures as well as the influence of unified weights and measures on the changes in rules and mechanisms,the characteristics,the manifestation and the underlying structure of economic development in a historical sense.Based on the studies of former scholars,the research thought of this thesis places the development and evolution,the standardized contents,the unified practices,the measuring characteristics,the calculating operation and the internal logic of weights and measures in various historical periods respectively from the perspective of historical textology.It comprehensively analyzes the development law and internal logic of ancient Tibet's weights and measures from the multidimensional perspective of multiple narration so as to obtain the historical basis of the uniqueness of weights and measures in each historical period and get a glimpse into the causes of the effective integration of weights andmeasures by social clusters,political organizations and systems.It attempts to explore the laws of all weights and measures in different periods of Tibet by their its historical origins,its standardization and history of development and evolution from a macro perspective.This paper is divided into five chapters to analyze and discuss ancient Tibet's weights and measures.Chapter One illustrates the embryonic state of Tibet's weights and measures and makes a preliminary discussion on its primitive state and quantity from the perspective of textology.The second chapter elaborates the emergence and development of Tibet's weights and measures and further explains the standardization and unification of weights and measures in the Tubo Dynasty through its development in the pre-TuboDynasty,the Tubo Dynasty and the post-Tubo Dynasty.Chapter Three expounds the inheritance and development of Tibet's weights and measures from the 13 th to the 17 th century.Chapter Four discusses the rise and fall of weights and measures during the period of dgavldan-pho-brang local governments.Chapter Five makes a summary of the above mentioned four chapters.
