On The Justification Problem Of Knowledge:in The View Of Evidentialism

JTB theory,the traditional definition of knowledge,explains that knowledge is justified true belief.However,Gettier’s two counter-examples tell us that knowledge cannot necessarily be obtained from these three conditions,which conclude truth condition,belief condition and justification condition.The occurrence of Gettier’s problem set fire to the revolution in the field of epistemology,and then the debate on knowledge justification surfaced from the water.During that period,the study on epistemology took a turn,from the embryology perspective to the point of justification condition,in other words,how can a belief become knowledge.Focused on the justification problem of knowledge,there are two rival answers,Internalism and Externalism.The former proposes that knowledge’s justification should be managed inside the mind of doxastic subject,excluding the external factors,while the latter regards external process as the key factor,the justification is tied closely to the outside world.The focal point is that whether the justification is decided by the internal stated of doxastic subject,or by external influencing factors,for instance,probability and reliable process.The Foundationlism and Coherentism are representatives of the Internalism,and the Reliabilism is the representative of the Externalism.Each method has its merits and demerits.Just on the basis of criticizing and absorbing the two methods,Feldman and Conee put forward the Evidential ism.Evidentialism is a theory of evidence,whose core point is that the epistemic justification of a belief is solely determined by the quality of the believer’s evidence for the belief.The doxastic attitude that a person is justified in having is the one that fits the person’s evidence.The main contents the paper talks about also cover evidence’s concept,the word’s origin and development,the classification of evidence and the principle of Well-foundedness.The paper holds the opinion that the evidentialism is a product of mixing and improving the Internalism and the Externalism.Besides,from the internal and external angles of view,the paper discusses the dilemma and queries which the Evidentialsm is facing,and tries to give a reasonable interpretation and feasible solution.
