The Peony Pavilion was created in 1598.It is one of the masterpieces of Tang Xianzu,a famous dramatist and writer of the Ming Dynasty.It is also known as the four classical Chinese dramas with "The West Chamber","Chang Sheng Dian" and "Peach Blossom Fan".As an art treasure of the excellent traditional culture in China,since its inception,The Peony Pavilion has been popular with readers in various periods,and it is also a hot spot in academic research.As early as the 1920 s,The Peony Pavilion was widely circulated in China and began to go abroad.Different versions of translations have sprung up and enjoyed a reputation worldwide.The emergence of translations makes the original and the translation help each other and promote each others ' development.However,after careful study,it can be found that there are many differences between the original and English translations of The Peony Pavilion.This paper discusses three important problems are the difference between the original and the English translation,the reasons of the differences between the original and the English translation,and the significance of the comparative study between the original and the English translation.This article analyzes the differences between the original and the English translation in the four aspects of speech style,semantic level,character image,thought theme and the reasons for the difference and the significance of comparative study of differences.Due to the large number of translated versions of "Peony Pavilion",several representative English translations of The Peony Pavilion were selected for detailed comparative study with the original.The selected translations were the English translations of Wangrongpei,Zhangguangqian,and Baizhi.The novel version of "Peony Pavilion" translated by Yanxiaoping,adapted by Tengjianming,and translated by Guweiguang and Maluofu,Through the detailed comparative study of the original and the English translation The Peony Pavilion.and the above five translations.To explore the difference between the original works and the English translation,the reasons of the differences,with a view to providing theoretical support and practical suggestions for the translation of the later drama books,or the translation of English translations of other works,so as to better realize the cultural transformation and promote the Chinese outstanding traditional culture.Enhancing cultural self-confidence.
