| This is a translation report on Diary of A Serial Killer(C hapter 1 to 4).This report aims to analyze the problem arising from the process of translating the literary text.Moreover,this report investigates how the author put forwards correspo nding translation strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence.The translation of this book is significant because it sheds light on future translation and research on suspense thriller works.This translation report mainly illustrates the translation task from such aspects as introduction of translation task,pre-translation preparation,process description,and case analysis under the guidance of functional equivalence.In the pre-translation stage,the author analyzes the stylistic features of the text.In order to be fully prepared,the author attempts to establish the term database,refers to the parallel texts,prepares both paper and online dictionaries,and designs a translation schedule.In case analysis stage,the author analyzes some typical examples from lexical,syntactical and textual equivalence,such as conversion,adding footnotes,adjustment of word order,repetition and omission.In the end,the author concludes the limitations of the translation,providing reference for future translations of relevant areas.This report reveals that when translating literary texts,translators need to be familiar with the features of literary writings both in C hinese and English.Besides,translators are suggested to flexibly adopt such strategies as conversion,repetition and omission,etc.In this way,translators are likely to accurately and clearly transmit the writers’ messages to C hinese readers,thereby reaching functional equivalence. |
