| This report analyses how the translator finishes her translation task within the framework of Peter Ne wmark’s Communicative Translation Approach in the course of preparation,translation and assessment.With the further development of globalization,cultural exchanges between C hina and Western countries have been strengthened.As we all know,literary works have been playing an important role in cultural exchanges.The Little White Bird(1902)is a British novel by J.M.Barrie.In this book,Chapter 13 to C hapter 18 introduced the character of Peter Pan,and those chapters were published separately as a children’s book,Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.And the translator selects its Chapters 14,15 and 16 as her translation materials.Before getting down to translation practice,the translator finds that characteristics of children’s novel differ greatly from those of the adult novel.The translator should translate the story from the perspective of children who are the target readers.In the book Approaches to Translation,Peter Newmark explains that Communicative Translation Approach attaches importance to the feeling of the target readers,which is also emphasized in the translation of children’s novel.Therefore,the translator tries to adopt communicative translation to direct her translation task.This report consists of four parts.In the first part,the translator briefly introduces the background and stylistic features of the source text,summarizes the characteristics of children’s novel,and also states the significance of this report.This part can help the readers have preliminary cognition of this novel and the report.The second part includes literature review and the process of proofreading after translating.The most important part is the third part which describes the theoretical basis of translating and presents the translation strategies in details.In the last part,the translator mainly summarizes the findings and problems of the whole translating process,and gives several suggestions for the translators.Through this translation practice,the t ranslator finds it is feasible to apply communicative translation approach to the translation of children’s novel.The report summarizes its major findings and points out the problems encountered and gives possible solutions.It’s a systematic conclusion of a translation task which helps the translator to realize her shortcomings and to improve her language skills. |
