This is a translation report based on the translation practice of an English academic paper Entrepreneurs and the Co-Creation of Ecotourism in Costa Rica. This thesis from Social Science Research Network(SSRN)is about 13,000 words.During the translation process, the translator combines the four stages o f the Hermeneutic Motion Theory introduced by Steiner: trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation.Aiming to overcome the difficulties that show up in the translation process, including language differences, polysemy and information loss, the translator adopts the translation methods of literal translation and paraphrasing,as well as the translation strategies of inversion, conversion and annotation under the guidance of the Hermeneutic Motion Theory. As a result, the translation work can be smoother. The report consists of five parts: task description, literature review, process description, case study and conclusion.Task description is to describe the significance of translation task, introduce the background information and language features of the translation material.Literature review is mainly about the history of hermenutics both in the West and C hina,as well as the related studies on the relationship between hermenutics and translation.Process description includes three parts: pre-translation stage, translation stage and quality control.Case study applies the Hermeneutic Motion Theory to the translation material, employing corresponding translation strategies to cope with the translation difficulties. Conclusion is to summarize the findings and limitations during the translation process, emphasizing that the translator should moderately show her subjectivity.Steiner's Hermeneutic Motion Theory systematizes the translation process and gives full play to the translator 's subjectivity. However, there are still some limitations: the quality of the translation work is confined by the cognitive environment and pre-understanding,emotion and will of the translator, which is not objective enough.
