Since the beginning of the 21st century,in the context of the rising global terrorism,Southeast Asia has almost become the "worst hit" of terrorism and extremism.Indonesia,as a big country in Southeast Asia, provides fertile ground for the emergence and development of terrorism due to its characteristics such as large population, geographical fragmentation, and diverse religious beliefs. Therefore, how to curb terrorism in Indonesia and how to maintain Indonesia‘s social stability has become an important issue concerning the long-term security of Southeast Asia. For this reason, many Southeast Asian scholars have carried out research on such issues. And these research results have important reference value for China to understand the international situation, determine her political stance, and formulate foreign policies. In November 2018,the author was invited by a teacher of the College of ASEAN Studies at Guangxi University for Nationalities to translate an academic paper entitled "The Surabaya Bombings and the Future of ISIS in Indonesia" and written by an Indonesian scholar on the website of the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict(IPAC).The translated text will be contributed to a journal named Southeast Asian Studies.Based on this translation practice, coupled with George Steiner‘s Theory of Hermeneutic Motion, the report intends to analyze the translation practice to understand the translator‘s translation process. These analyses,on the one hand, are expected to improve the translation quality and the author‘s translation competence, and on the other hand to provide suggestions and reference for translators who might use the theory to analyze translation practices in the future. The analysis of the translation practice in this report also shows that George Steiner‘s Theory of Hermeneutic Motion is applicable to the analysis of the translation of both literary and non-literary works.
