| Posthumous epithet is one of the important parts of Chinese traditional Confucian ritual culture, which is often inherited by imperial dynasties and used as a political tool to "correct names".Although no posthumous epithets appeared in the traditional national culture of the Khitan people, the Liao Dynasty built by the Khitan improved the law of giving the posthumous epithets by imitating that of the Han and Tang Dynasties.Generally speaking, posthumous law of emperors of Liao Dynasty originated in Queen Chunqin and Emperor Taizong ruling period of Liao Dynasty, developed and improved in Emperor Shengzong and Emperor Xingzong ruling periods, and basically formed in Emperor Daozong and Emperor Tianzuo ruling periods.Due to the low quality of Liao History and the lack of historical records in Liao Dynasty, there are still many doubts which need to be verified in the posthumous law of the emperors and queens of Liao Dynasty. The continuous discovery of epitaph in Liao Dynasty provides more historical evidence for the posthumous law of the emperors and queens of Liao Dynasty.Based on the previous studies, this paper takes the Han and Tang Dynasties as the reference, and uses the unearthed epitadic data of Liao Dynasty as an important basis for the comparison of the texts. The research objects are combined with similar items, and the Liao Dynasty recorded in the historical records is recorded by means of quantitative statistics and graph analysis. The posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens of Liao Dynasty is organized and tested. On the basis of collation and textual research, the historical problems and social background behind the posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens of Liao Dynasty were deeply explored, trying to restore the development context of the Liao Dynasty emperors and the historical appearance of the political and social development of the Liao Dynasty.By studying the posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens in the Liao Dynasty,it is not difficult to find that,as some scholars have proposed, due to the differences in national culture, the Liao Dynasty built by the Khitan nationality may have a certain degree of incomprehension of the traditional culture of the central plains and the imitation without understanding, which leads to the imperfection and immaturity of the posthumous epithets of the emperorsand queens in the Liao Dynasty. However,it should also be noted that the posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens in the Liao Dynasty developed the traditional.posthumous culture of central plains to a certain extent.Under the influence ofConfucianism,Buddhism,Taoism,Shamanism and other ideologies, the posthumous law of the emperors and queens in the Liao Dynasty was innovated in terms of the number of words and the usage of words. In addition, the posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens in the Liao Dynasty retained some national cultural characteristics, rather than copying the central plains culture completely. Therefore, the posthumous epithets of the emperors and queens in the Liao Dynasty was one of the products of the blending of Khitan national culture and Han national culture. |
