The Study On Kang Youwei’s Overseas Poetry And Prose

Kang Youwei was a well-known politician at home and abroad,as well as a famous thinker,writer,calligrapher,educator and scholar.The published works are quite rich.nearly 2,000 Poems,more than 600 overseas Poetry creations,and more than 40 overseas essays.His overseas literary works not only reflect Kang Youwei’s patriotic feelings of being far away from his homeland and caring for the fate of his country,but also a true portrayal of the fate of modern scholars.Kang Tongbi,in his Chronicle of Kangnanhai’s Self-compilation,said: "Since the 18 th Movement of 1898,his footprints have been there.In three weeks,he traveled all over four continents,over 30 countries,and traveled 600,000 miles." This truly reflects Kang Youwei’s overseas life.This article consists of seven parts: the introduction part focuses on the history and current situation of Kang Youwei’s poetry research,and puts forward the reasons for selecting the topic and the research value.In the first chapter,the social background before the Reform Movement of 1898,Kang Youwei’s family background and his early life are summarized.Kang Youwei’s overseas travel is divided into three parts: the period of escape and depression,the period of wandering around the world and the period of neighbouring countries’ living in peace.He also focuses on the analysis of his overseas travels with Reformists,Japanese friends and friends from other countries.The second chapter summarizes the development of "Overseas Literature" and Kang Youwei’s creative ideas of "Overseas Literature".In the third chapter,Kang Youwei’s overseas poems are summarized from five aspects: scenery,expression,history,narrative,and object chanting and representative poems are selected for analysis.The artistic features of Kang Youwei’s overseas poems are as follows: creating new words,combining Chinese and Western poems;using allusions to work in bixing;imagination is peculiar and the image is magnificent;Intense anger,deep depression;Rich in subjects,diverse forms and so on.The fourth chapter summarizes Kang Youwei’s writing content and artistic characteristics of overseas prose.Inductive prose content as follows: depicting overseas natural scenery;describing overseas exotic customs;displaying western spiritual civilization;extollingworld history and culture;and expressing Chinese patriotic feelings.The characteristics of inductive prose art are summarized as follows: mixed with Buddhist and new nouns;the use of multiple expressions;the combination of diary and note-taking;reporting literatures,etc.The fifth chapter elaborates the development of modern "overseas literature",analyses the similarities and differences between Kang Youwei’s overseas poetry and overseas prose,discusses the similarities and differences between Kang Youwei’s overseas poetry and Huang Zunxian’s overseas poetry of the same era,and compares Kang Youwei’s and disciple Liang Qichao’s overseas poetry and prose,with a view to making a thorough,comprehensive and systematic study.In the conclusion part,I briefly comment on Kang Youwei’s achievements in overseas poetry and prose creation,as well as his position and value in the modern literary history.
