Writing is one of the most significant parts of English learning,however,for a long time,writing teaching has not drawn enough attention in class due to small proportion of English writing in the exam.Moreover,students always find it hard to write in English.In view of this,in 2012,Professor Wang Chuming put forward ‘the Continuation Task',a writing teaching method,which requires students to read a passage with no ending and then conceive the ending with their own imagination.What's important,students can improve their English writing by imitating the language and using some key words and phrases of the reading materials in the Continuation Task.Based on Krashen's Input Hypothesis,Swain's Output Hypothesis and Pickering & Grarrod'Interactive Alignment Theory,this study chooses 100 students of two classes in second grade of Chengji Senior High School in Jingning County as participants,with Class 1 as the experimental class,Class 6 as the control class.The teaching experiment lasts for eight weeks.The research mainly focuses on two aspects,first,can the Continuation Task improve the writing achievement of students in the experimental class?Second,how do students view the Continuation Task? To deal with the research questions,several instruments,pre-and post-test writing tests,pre-and post-questionnaire and SPSS 22 research tools etc.are used to study students' English writing and changes after the experiment.The research has shown that the Continuation Task not only has a positive impact on improving the overall English writing performance of high school students,but affects the writing process of high school students from four aspects.First,the Continuation Task could improve students' overall feelings of English writing.Secondly,the Continuation Task would improve students' satisfaction with teachers' instructions in English writing class.Then,the Continuation Task would reduce the difficulties that high school students meet in writing.At last,the Continuation Task could increase students' knowledge of writing strategies and the use of writing strategies.The results of this research indicates that there are at least three aspects for future researches.First of place,great importance should be attached to the combination of writing and reading,which might improve the writing proficiency of students.Secondly,teachers should choose appropriate reading materials to help students deepen their reading materials in the application of the Continuation Task,which might help students understand the reading materials better and complete the writing tasks.At last,teachers should emphasize the role of the interactive alignment,for it is one of the most important factors for students tocomplete their writings.
