The English teachers beliefs refer to the positive views of English teachers in classroom teaching,language,learning,learners,contents and so on.In the process of English teaching,the beliefs of English teachers plays an important role in their teaching behaviors,and teaching beliefs have a great influence on teaching behaviors.Teachers determine teaching objectives and teaching methods based on teaching beliefs,and implement classroom teaching based on their respective teaching beliefs.Since the 1980 s,with the profound development of the understanding of teaching complexity and the cognitive field,the research focus of western scholars has shifted from the external behaviors of teachers to the comprehensive thinking of teachers.In this transformation,teachers beliefs is the most important concern of scholars.They believe that teachers beliefs are closely connected with teaching behaviors.The formation and development of teachers beliefs can improve teachers' teaching and improve their efficiency,which is especially important for students' learning.This study is a case study of English teachers beliefs and teaching behaviors.Qualitative and quantitative research methods are adopted to the study.Three research instruments are applied:questionnaire surveys,interviews and classroom observations.The subjects of the study are four English teachers,two of them are backbone teachers with years of teaching experience and won multiple awards,the other two are novice teachers with few teaching experience,and 421 students from eight different classes.The following questions are raised: 1)What beliefs do the senior high school English teachers hold?Are there any differences in teacher beliefs between novice teachers and backbone teachers? 2)Are backbone teachers' teaching behaviors and their teachers beliefs consistent? And are novice teachers' teaching behaviors and their teachers beliefs consistent? This study first conducted pre-class interviews with four high school English teachers and recorded the interview contents to understand the basic personal situation of each teacher and the beliefs of high school English teachers at this stage.Subsequent classroom observations and corresponding teaching behaviors were conducted to understand the relationship between English teachers beliefs and teaching behaviors.Through the compilation and analysis of records and data,it is found that:(1)There are similarities and differences in the beliefs of English teachers in this school: English teachers beliefs about English language and curriculum are relatively consistent,but their beliefs about learning and teaching are somewhat inconsistent.(2)The beliefs and behaviors of English teachers in this school are basicallyconsistent,but due to the influence of various factors such as students' abilities,test pressure and so on,they sometimes appear to be disconnected.
