Nowadays,teachers have attracted much attention.Teachers' beliefs and teachers' behaviors have become social concerns.Relevant researches show that teachers' teaching beliefs will have a great impact on teachers' actual teaching behavior.Therefore,this paper investigates into the overall situation of English teachers' beliefs and English classroom teaching behaviors in rural high schools,and then analyzes the correlation between them,finally provides some effective and operative suggestions for English teaching in rural high schools.This paper investigates into some English teachers from three rural senior high schools as research data by questionnaires and interviews.Three schools are all from Xinhua County,Hunan Province.The questionnaire for the English teachers' teaching beliefs in rural high schools was slightly modified from the questionnaires of Zhu Yuanyu,Ye Yuzhu(2000),and Dr.Lu Guoguang(2004).This questionnaire includes four dimensions: English curriculum beliefs,English language teaching beliefs,English learning beliefs,and student beliefs.The questionnaire for English teachers' classroom teaching behavior in rural high schools was based on a small modification of Yao Limin's(2004)teacher's classroom teaching behavior questionnaire and Tian Xin's(2007)the teacher's classroom teaching behavior evaluation criteria questionnaire.The questionnaire includes three dimensions: the English classroom questioning behavior,the English classroom presentation behavior,and the English classroom guidance behavior.The research questions addressed in this study are:(1)What are the general teaching beliefs for Senior high school English teachers in local areas?(2)What are the general classroom teaching behaviors for Senior high school English teachers in local areas?(3)Is the relationship between the two related with each other?The results show that:(1)English teachers in rural high schools hold a relatively positive attitude towards teaching belief,among which learners occupy the highest level of belief,followed by language teaching beliefs,English learning beliefs,and English curriculum beliefs.The level of belief in English curriculum is the lowest;(2)In general,the classroom behaviors of English teachers in rural high schools are also optimistic,but they are not ideal in guiding learning strategies;(3)English teachers' teaching beliefs and their classroom teaching behaviors in rural areas was significantly correlated.According to the results,this paper puts forward some feasible suggestions from the perspective of teachers and schools in order to promote English teachers' teaching beliefs in rural high schools and ameliorate their classroom teaching behaviors.
