In the study of Chinese learners' English learning,English phonetic learning has attracted more and more researchers' attention.Among many factors in phonetic learning,English pronunciation self-concept and phonological awareness has become an important part in English phonetic research for its correlation with learners' speech performance and competence. In the study of phonological awareness, researchers mostly take preschool children as research objects.Researches mainly investigate phonological awareness in first language, while the study of college students' second language phonological awareness is rare, let alone research combined with pronunciation self-concept and the similarities and differences between different majors. This thesis is aiming to investigate the correlation between English self-concept and English phonological awareness among English majors,non-English majors, and English minors. Moreover, the commonality and characteristics of the three sets of data are analyzed and elaborated in order to explore the similarities and differences of learners' English pronunciation self-concept and phonological awareness from different major perspectives. This thesis investigates English pronunciation self-concept and English phonological awareness of English majors,non-English majors, and English minors. It adopts the overall English self-concept scale, the English pronunciation self-concept scale and the phonological awareness scale to investigate the English self-concept and phonological awareness of 224 sophomores which includes 89 English majors,68 non-English majors and 67 English minors. All data were subjected to descriptive analysis and correlation analysis by using SPSS 23.0.The results demonstrate a significant correlation between English pronunciation self-concept and phonological awareness of English majors and English minors but no significant correlation in these two aspects among non-English majors. All students scored highest in syllable awareness, followed by onset-rime awareness, and the lowest was the phoneme awareness. It is also found that the majority of learners, especially non-English majors, have a weak phonetic knowledge. Therefore,in thefuture phonetic teaching, the basic phonetic teaching such as phonetic alphabet teaching should be strengthened to lay a good foundation for college students' English pronunciation and ultimately get rid of "mute English."...
