Vocabulary teaching in senior high school is a main part of English teaching,directly influencing the application and development of students' English ability.As a beneficial supplement to vocabulary teaching,lexical chunk teaching puts an equal emphasis on grammatical rules and language application in the teaching process,which is effective to facilitate language idiomaticness and fluency.At present,domestic researches mainly discuss surveys of foreign language learners' lexical chunk knowledge,emphasizing the significant effect of lexical chunks on second language acquisition,revealing the relationship between lexical chunks and language acquisition and application,and so on.However,there have been rare substantial studies focusing on how to input lexical chunks that helps to promote the quality of language output.Therefore,based on schema theory,input and output theory,the author puts forward topic-based lexical chunks teaching.To be specific,lexical chunks teaching and learning are based on topics of each unit in New Senior English For China Student's Book 6,which is published by People's Education Press.Students acquire and intake lexical chunks in context,establish lexical chunk schema,store and memorize lexical chunks systematically.When students encounter related topics,they can extract and use lexical chunks flexibly and correctly,which promotes their output performance.With 78 students of senior two in Ruishan High School selected as research subjects,methods of test,questionnaire and interview are adopted to explore whether topic-based lexical chunks teaching can facilitate language input and output.In light of this research purpose,the following two questions are proposed in this study.(1)What effects does topic-based lexical chunks teaching have on the quality of senior high students' written output?(2)What effects does topic-based lexical chunks teaching have on senior high students' vocabulary learning strategies?Through the analysis and discussion of the acquired data,conclusions are drawn in the following: firstly,topic-based lexical chunks teaching concentrates on acquiring lexical chunks,building lexical chunk schema and using lexical chunks,which contributes to facilitating the quality of senior high students' written output.Composition scores and the number of lexical chunks used by students in experimental group have been improved significantly.Secondly,the research shows that topic-based lexical chunks teaching has a positive effect on the improvement of students' vocabulary learning strategies.Students in experimental group adopt classification strategy,association strategy and application strategy to learn vocabulary.Based on the results of this research,the author puts forward some related suggestions from the perspective of developing lexical chunks awareness,optimizing vocabulary learning strategies and enhancing students' self-learning ability,hoping that it will make little contribution to the further research and the foreign language teaching.
