At present,China is implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, which promotes trade and cultural exchanges among countries and provides opportunities for revitalizing and spreading Chinese tea culture. Therefore, the author selects the"Tea Drinking"part in The Encyclopedia of Chinese Tea as translation material in order to let more foreigners have a deeper understanding of Chinese tea culture.Based on the translation practice, the author attempts to provide effective strategies for translating tea culture-bound words in informative texts. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One outlines the translation background and objectives, the introduction to the source text as well as the significance of this translation task.Chapter Two reviews the definition and previous translations of culture-bound words and analyzes the source text type.Besides,it describes the features of informative texts and reviews previous translations of culture-bound words in informative texts.Chapter Three classifies the tea culture-bound words in the source text and proposes requirements for translating tea culture-bound words according to the features of informative text.Chapter Four illustrates the strategies for translating different categories of tea culture-bound words.Chapter Five draws conclusions from previous analyses and discussions.According to the way of transmitting tea culture, tea culture-bound words in the source text can be divided into three categories, namely tea culture-bound terms, metaphorical tea culture-bound words and idiomatic tea culture-bound words.According to the features of informative texts, conclusions are as follows. As for tea culture-bound terms,it is required to accurately convey tea knowledge to readers and avoid redundant information.Translation strategies involve adding appositives or annotations to proper nouns, adding supplementary information to tea names, and omitting redundant information. As for metaphorical tea culture-bound words,it is required to accurately convey tea knowledge hidden in tenors to readers.Translation strategies are omitting vehicles and adding annotations to tenors. As for idiomatic tea culture-bound words, the connotative culture information should be highlighted.Translation strategies include interpretation and literal translation with annotation.Through the translation practice, the author hopes to provide effective strategies for translating tea culture-bound words in informative texts and to offer references and inspirations for later studies.
