The Translation Strategies Of Culture-bound Words In History Text

In this translation report,the author discusses the translation of culturebound words based on the English to Chinese translation text of A Concise History of Spain(Chapter 6).The author first gives reasons for applying domestication and foreignization strategy as guiding theory in translating culture-bound words in history text and then explores five specific ways of translating culture-bound words with examples chosen from the translated text.The factors taken into considerations in deciding a specific translation approach include reader‘s familiarity with a culturebound word,the richness of the connotation of a culture-bound word,writer‘s intention in using a culture-bound word and the context of a culture-bound word.
