A Study Of Music Style Of Jay Chou

Jay Chou is the most influential singer-songwriter on China's contemporary pop scene in the beginning of the 21 st century.Although he was a controversial figure for the personalized performance,his characteristic music style has exerted an enormous influence on the musicians who lived at the same time or even a bit later.What's more,he was also a well-known Chinese popular musician all over the world.This dissertation will focus on the musical text of the works from Jay's solo albums and some related songs since 2000 to 2016,and will analysis kinds of musical elements of the music combining its lyrics,themes,MV and so on from micro environment to macro and from transversal to longitudinal.Then,the thesis will conclude the entire features and stage characteristics of the music.In this paper,the author will take advantage of comprehensive approaches to analyze the music style of Jay in consideration of the musical text and the purpose of the research.The conclusion of the study is: the music style of Jay presents a form of "integration" because of the various elements involved.In different periods,Jay's musical styles have different characteristics while connected with each other as well.Behind this series of style changes,we can see Jay Chou,as a poplar musician,has been keeping exploring unceasingly between popularity and artistry,localization and internationalization.
