Facial expressions are the main form of emotion, conveying a wealth of information about emotions and social intent. In face-to-face communication, facial expressions can convey language and non-verbal communication between humans and promote interpersonal social interaction. In reality, though, the emotional face is rarely isolated. It is always present in a specific situation. The influence of emotional situation on facial expression perception can be generally divided into three categories: for emotionally explicit emotional expressions, the impact of emotional context on facial expression includes promotion and hindrance. For surprise and neutral expressions with vague titer, emotional situation has emotional induction effect. In fact, both neutrality and amazement are vague expressions with valence, and emotional situations have emotional or priming effects on both neutral and amazed face processing. However, existing studies have not systematically compared the situational effects of these two valence ambivalence expressions. Is the integration of neutral and amazed faces and textual situations occurring at an early stage of visual processing(N170)? Is the neurophysiological basis similar to the above-mentioned plausible facial expressions in terms of emotional consistency? These issues are subject to further investigation.Experiment 1 uses the emotional initiation paradigm to examine the impact of textual context on neutral and amazed facial expressions and the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms of whether the integration of neutral and amazed faces in the context of the text occurs in the early stages of visual processing(N170).Therefore,at the same time,a neutral or surprised face expression with words(positive, neutral, negative)is presented, and the subject is asked to judge the titer of the face expression.Behavioral findings found that the vocabulary background had no effect on the processing of neutral and astonishing faces.ERP results showed that P1,N170,N2,EPN,and P300 did not find the main effect of the situation. The main effect of P1 amplitude was not significant, while N170 and N2 components only showed the main effect of face stimulus valence, but no major effects are found on the late EPN and P3 components.Experiment 2 selected the background of the more emotional statement as the text situation. The background of the sentence induces the emotional state of the subject, and because it is the carrier of the semantic concept,it may also induce the expectation of the subject. It has an impact on subsequent ambiguous face processing. It is helpful to explore more deeply the temporal dynamics of the contextual impact of neutral and amazed face perception. The behavioral results showed that the contextual main effect of the sentence context was significant, and the neutral and surprised face valence scores were corrected/more negative in the self-related positive/negative sentence context. The main effect of facial expression was significant, the score of negative fearful faces was more negative, and the difference between neutral and surprised faces was not significant.ERP results showed that neutral-induced negative P1 induced greater P1.Compared with neutral and happy situation,N170 amplitude was significantly enhanced in negative statement situation. The EPN and P3 components showed only the main face effect, and the negative fear faces induced larger EPN and P3 amplitude. As summarized in the review, the following conclusions are drawn:1.The self-related emotional statement is an effective contextual cue,and its emotional contextual information adjusts the titer of the surprised face of the neutral and the ambiguously blurred face.2.The integration of neutral and surprised faces in emotional situations occurred in the early automated processing stage(P1,N170).3.The emotional “consistency effect” of the context on the initiation of neutral and astonished faces has a similar neural basis to the potency consistency effect of the negatively priced negative faces.
