Reading is one of the most important skills in learning English.The improvement of English reading ability plays a positive role in promoting the development of students' ability to think,to analyze and solve problems and to understand.At the same time,the cultivation of English reading ability also lays a good foundation for the cultivation of listening,speaking and writing ability,which can promote the development of students' comprehensive language use ability.A lexical chunk has a multiword structure that can be stored and extracted as a whole.Linguists have found that in natural language,the number of chunks is much more than the number of words,and the amount of information and the expressive function it has cannot be surpassed by words.Application of lexical chunks in teaching English reading is of great significance in junior middle school.In recent years,there have been a lot of research results on lexical chunk teaching,but most of them focus on applying lexical chunks teaching theory to writing teaching,vocabulary teaching and oral teaching.Although there are some researches on the application of lexical chunks in reading teaching,there are few empirical research papers on Chinese teaching in junior middle school English reading teaching.According to the current situation of English reading teaching in the writer's school and the actual situation of students in the school,this paper applies the lexical chunk teaching theory to the reading teaching in the class.In this paper,lexical chunks are applied to the teaching of English reading in junior high schools to answer the following two questions:(1)How do the students' attitudes towards reading change after the application of lexical chunks in junior high school English reading teaching?(2)How do the students' reading comprehension scores change after applying lexical chunks in junior high school English reading teaching?Through one-year teaching research,this paper conducted an action research on the English reading class taught by the author,and attempted to explore a feasible approach and method for junior high school English reading teaching,which could be used for reference by the peers who were equally confused in junior high school English reading teaching.This paper adopted the quantitative,qualitative method and class obserbation to verify the effectiveness of lexical chunks in the teaching of junior middle school English reading By analyzing the questionnaire survey and interview conducted in the early stage of action research,as well as using SPSS22.0 software to compare and analyze the pre-test and post-test data of action research,and conducting questionnaire and interview again in the later stage,to test the effectiveness of applying chunks in junior high school English reading teaching.Research shows that chunk teaching can promote students to actively read.Many students hold the attitude that they hate reading before action research,and that reading is the most difficult part of English.In the later period of action research,they don't dislike or even like reading.At the same time,the writer compare and analyze the reading comprehension results of the students in the class before and after the action research and find that the average reading score of the students before the action research is 17.700 points;while the average reading score of the students after the action research is 24.125 points.That is to say,after the one-year action research of students,the reading comprehension scores of the classes taught by the author have been greatly improved.Through the implementation of chunk teaching,students can consciously identify chunks,memorize chunks and apply chunks.However,there are still some deficiencies in this study:the study sample is relatively small,so it still needs to be further developed and improved.Because students know little about chunks,teachers take a leading role in the whole process of action research in this research of teaching about reading.In the future research,the author will improve the ability of students to independently identify and apply chunks and solve problems in reading comprehension,and further test the influence of lexical chunks on writing or other aspects.
