Like grammar,vocabulary is the basis of foreign language learning.High school students generally lack English vocabulary,which leads to students encountering unknown words in the process of reading.This is considered to be the most difficult obstacle in English learning.It will make many students avoid English learning,seriously affecting students' reading speed and comprehension.One of the reasons for this obstacle is that there are no effective learning methods and learning strategies.In recent years,many scholars have studied lexical inferencing strategies and analyzed them from different perspectives.The studies have shown that infer the meaning of unknown words through contextual clues can help students understand the meaning of words in context and improve their reading ability to a certain extent.Based on the theory and research of many experts,the author tests whether the training of lexical inferencing strategy is suitable for high school students through the training of lexical inferencing strategy,which is commonly known as the training of guessing strategy in our teaching,so as to improve the correct rate of guessing words in reading and the reading competence of students.This study uses empirical research methods,such as lexical inferencing test,reading comprehension test and interview,to study the training of middle school students' lexical inferencing strategies.This thesis involves two research questions:1.Can the training of lexical inferencing strategies improve senior high school students' lexical inferencing ability?2.Can the training of lexical inferencing strategies better senior high school students' English reading comprehension achievements?The subjects of this study are 80 students from two parallel classes of a ordinary senior high school in Yinchuan,Ningxia.The study lasted above two months.Over this period,the author put forward eight learning strategies of guessing words through context to the students in the EC in detail,and arranged different forms of training in stages.Students have learned lexical inferencing strategies by understanding the meaning of new words in reading.Through collecting and analyzing the experiments data of pre-test and post-test,and making a detailed comparison,we used SPSS 21.0 statistical analysis software to analyze and discuss the data.The following findings are established: through the teaching experiment of lexical inferencing strategy training,the students' LIA in the EC has been significantly improved.With the improvement of the ability to guess words,students' reading comprehension achievements are also constantly improving.More importantly,students showgreater interest in language learning.Therefore,this study demonstrates the importance of lexical inferencing strategies for high school students' reading comprehension.Lexical inferencing strategy training can help students acquire English vocabulary more effectively.
