Artistic Compassion And Aesthetic Order:A Study Of Liu Shu-Sicn's Aesthetic Thought From The Perspective Of "Two Elements Theory

As one of the representative figures of the third generation of Contemporary Neo-Confucianism in Hong Kong and Taiwan,Liu Shu-hsien has made a promotion and development of the thoughts of Neo-Confucianism since Hsiung Shih-li,Mou Tsung-san and Thome Fang with his philosophical view of"One Principle with Manifestations" and "Two Elements Theory".Liu Shu-hsien put forward in his virgin works that"The soul of literary appreciation"focuses on "The brilliance of human nature".We can find out the relationship between "Beauty" and "Goodness"by analyze "The brilliance of human nature".At the same time,through the understanding of his philosophy of "Two Elements Theory" in his later years,we can sort out the innovative transformation from his" One Principle with Manifestations"to"Two Elements Theory".We can reflect on and examine his early literature and aesthetics propositions with the perspective of"Two Elements Theory",so as to explore the relationship between aesthetics and ethics in his philosophical theory,so as to link up the development process of his thoughts from philosophy of significance to Philosophy of culture to Philosophy of system.We will analyze how Liu Shu-hsien made the academic efforts to solve the dilemma of Confucianism under the background of modernity and post-modernity,then conclude the pros and cons from the process of the analysis.The paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter examines the problem of subject self and inter-subjectivity from the perspective of the relation between tradition and modernity,from which we can see the dilemma in the process of modernization faced by the traditional Confucianism.The second chapter mainly deals with Liu Shu-hsien's philosophical propositions,the modern interpretation of the"One Principle with Manifestations"and the"Two Elements Theory" have undergone the process of "Paradigm Shift".The third chapter researches Liu Shu-hsien's"artistic compassion"which mentioned in The Soul of Literary Appreciation.It compares Liu Shu-hsien's aesthetic thought with religious thought with the pivot of"human nature",then we can explore his discourse-turn from aesthetics to ethics by disclosing the Beauty and Goodness concealed by artistic compassion.The fourth chapter explores the deficiencies of Liu Shu-hsien's aesthetic discourse by connecting Habermas's communicative behavior theory with Liu Shu-hsien's."Two Elements Theory".
