Jacques Offenbach(1819-1880),a German-French composer,had created 90 operas when he passed away at the age of 61,ranging from playlet with only two characters to complete operas.The melody of his works is exquisite and pleasant to listen to,and the content is able to make people relax.He is known as the "Mozart of the Palais de Chaillot” by a famous Italian composer of operas at the same era with him.In his later years,Offenbach was not satisfied with the success he had achieved in the operetta field.Therefore,before he died,he decided to create a famous masterpiece,“The Tales of Hoffmann” which premiered at the Paris Opera House and received wide praise after the premiere.Hereafter,“The Tales of Hoffmann” has become one of the most popular operas in the world.This paper mainly carries out analysis by focusing on the character shaping of hero Hoffman,singing analysis and characteristics of “The Tales of Hoffmann”,which can be mainly divided into the preface,three chapters of preface and conclusion to discuss.The first part is the preface,mainly introducing the reason why I chose this opera as the research topic,the current research condition and the research direction and methods and goals expected to be met when the author writes this paperThe main body part is narrated in three chapters.Chapter One is a general introduction to“The Tales of Hoffmann” mainly revolving around a brief account of Offenbach's life,the writing background of the opera,the connection between Hoffman,hero of the opera and the prototypes of characters,the relationship between main characters and the content of the plot.Chapter Two is an analysis of the image of Hoffman,the characteristics of the role of Hoffman is mainly analyzed through videos of the opera and relevant literature,and the stage performance of Hoffman is also analyzed by combining the author's practical experience surrounding these characteristics.Chapter Three is the central part of the paper,it analyzes the music performance techniques used to depict the role of Hoffman by Offenbach,and studies by taking an aria and an ensemble of Hoffman as examples.Through an analysis of music style,comparison with the Chinese lyrics and combined with the author's personal experience,the singing techniques and emotional analysis of Hoffman are discussed,and finally comes the summary of the singing techniques.The third part is the conclusion part,summarizing the significance of analyzing and studying the role of Hoffmann in “The Tales of Hoffmann”.
